Weymouth & Portland Borough Council is in the process of preparing Weymouth’s famous golden sands for the summer season.
During winter months, the sand on Weymouth beach is displaced by wind and rain, which means that each year it must be levelled out in order to keep it in picture-perfect condition.
The levelling process, which began on Monday 1 March, is expected to be finished this Thursday 4 March.
A Council spokesperson said: “Weymouth’s trademark golden sands are an important part of what makes our Borough so special, and the beach receives yearly attention in order to keep it in peak condition. People who see the team in operation during the levelling process often assume that sand is being delivered to the beach from elsewhere, however it is actually just being redistributed – we don’t import sand to Weymouth.
“This annual maintenance effort is part of the Council’s preparations to get Weymouth & Portland ready for the summer season.”
