New Organisers Announced For Weymouth Carnival From 2010

Weymouth Community Volunteers are delighted to announce that a way forward for Carnival in Weymouth has been found – The Rotary Club will take over the helm from 2010.

In 2007, when the Round Table decided to step down as organisers, WCV took on the coordination of Carnival. With invaluable support from W&PBC, Weymouth College and the Beach Group we succeeded in keeping the Carnival on the calendar, as well as retaining the original charity ethos from over 50 years ago.

With Weymouth in the international spotlight in preparation for 2012, we recognise that as a small charity we have little capacity to develop the Carnival to meet its true potential; however, as a major international charity the Rotary Club does have the capacity and is the right organisation to take Weymouth Carnival forward.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to all our volunteers who gave their time, skills and labour to help us with the mammoth task of organising the Carnival and all the events leading up to the day. We look forward to working with the Rotary Club and will continue to recruit volunteer help for future carnival activities. We would also like to thank all the sponsors and supporters that have worked with us over the last two years and to ensure continuity the details of all commitments for Carnival in 2010, including a main sponsor will be passed on.

We wish the Rotary Club every success. We are sure that with their expertise Weymouth Carnival will go from strength to strength and we encourage the community to get behind them, show their full and active support and to be part of the Carnival journey.
