Portland Harbour was one of the country’s prime naval bases. In WW2 it was an embarkation for the great D-Day landings in 1944 when half a million Allied troops and their vehicles came to Portland and Weymouth to be loaded onto their craft destined for France. Stuart Morris – Portland
31 October 2009 marks 1000 days to go until the start of the 2012 London Games.
