Weymouth Rotary Club are embarking on a challenge to raise funds on 25th October 2009 commencing 11 minutes to 11 am (don’t leave it until the eleventh hour).
It is hoped by publicising the event in our locality that men of all ages might take note of how serious cancer can be within the male species. Cancer has no respect for age and as such this is not an age related disease. The walk is targeting men in our locality, it is hoped that we can raise not only money but the profile of these horrendous diseases. Therefore we would like to appeal to your club with your male members to come out on Sunday 25th and support this very worthy cause as cancer can strike at any time with disastrous effects on friends, families and loved ones.
Statistics:
· 35,000 cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed in the UK every year.
· 2,000 cases of testicular cancer are diagnosed in the UK every year.
· Out of every hundred cancers diagnosed in men, 24 are for prostate.
By raising funds and the profile it is hoped that men in Dorset will benefit from our inaugural event. So please don’t delay, check yourself today.
If you or your group would like to take part in this worthwhile cause of which 100% of all monies raised will go to Orchid Men’s Charities. To make the day a little more fun we hope to get as many men as possible to wear their pants over their trousers/shorts, but this is not compulsory and a prize will be given to the best pants on show.
Weymouth Football Club and in particular their Chairman Ian Ridley has endorsed this event and has added a few notes below, he has also pledged that some Weymouth footballers will; join the walk. A leisurely walk along the Esplanade from the Pavilion Theatre to Cafe Oasis and back (approximately 4 miles), this is also not compulsory as you can do as much or as little as you feel able to.
To support this event you will need to raise an individual sponsorship of £20. For more information and a sponsorship form please ring Rob on 07887 755750 or email him on rob@eleventhhour.org.uk
